INVERTER
CHARGERS

Inverter chargers are a two way street, they use DC from a battery and produce 240v AC for you to run electrical appliances or lights. Then when they receive 240v AC they act like a charger putting energy back into the batteries.

Inverter Charger ratings explained

Victron Inverters are rated in VA.

To convert to watts it really depends on what type of equipment is being powered.

An easy rule of thumb conversion would be to times VA by 0.8 power factor.

2000VA becomes 1600w.

This is the inverters continuous rating.

Power Assist

Some Inverter chargers also offer a power assist function (transfer switch).

For example If the Inverter charger is supplied by a domestic 10A lead (Thats around 2400w), the inverter charger output would now be the rating of the inverter plus the rating of the supply lead. So your 2000VA (1600w) inverter charger is now capable of suppling around 4000w. Assuming your battery is charged.

  • Inverters chargers can use large amounts of energy from your batteries, we advise the use of a battery monitor which will show you your batteries state of charge in a % (SOC).

  • Victron battery monitors can also connect to the Victron Cerbo GX display, this gives you information on both your DC and AC systems in one place. This can even be viewed remotely if internet is availabe.

  • Keep the distance short between the batteries and inverter charger. This will reduce the cable size required.

  • Try to avoid installing inverter chargers in hot environments. If unavoidable it might be better to oversize the inverter charger for what you need. Inverters continuous output rating drops by 10% if the ambient temperatures increases from 25 degrees to 40 degrees.

  • All the Victron Inverter chargers that are listed as "Smart" can be set up using the free Victron Connect app.

  • Some Victron Inverter chargers can be joined together and will work in parallel for higher loads. Three Inverter chargers can also be used for Three phase applications. A total of nine inverters can be used on a single system.
